چکیده
This report concerns a study which was conducted for SKB. The conclusions and viewpoints presented in the report are those of the author and do not necessarily coincide with those of the client. Preface This document contains information on the Weichselian glacial history, specifically of conditions during Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3, the period preceding the Last Glacial Maximum. The information will be used in e.g. the report " Climate and climate-related issues for the safety assessment SR-Site " .

Extra-long interglacial in Northern Hemisphere during MISs 15-13 arising from limited extent of Arctic ice sheets in glacial MIS 14
Knowledge of the behavior of Northern Hemisphere (NH) ice sheets over the past million years is crucial for understanding the role of orbitally driven insolation changes on glacial/interglacial cycles. Here, based on the demonstrable link between changes in Chinese loess grain-size and NH ice-sheet extent, we use loess grain-size records to confirm that northern ice-sheets were restricted durin...
متن کاملGlobal Climate Change in Marine Stable Isotope Records
Marine stable isotope records provide the basis for much of our understanding of past climates. During the past four decades of research, the exploitation of climatic information contained in marine stable isotopes led to the generation of a global network of marine stable isotope records. In particular, oxygen isotope records have been used to estimate past water temperatures, ice sheet sizes,...
متن کاملIce Complex formation in arctic East Siberia during the MIS3 Interstadial
A continuous 15 m long sequence of Ice Complex permafrost (Yedoma) exposed in a thermo-cirque at the southern coast of Bol’shoy Lyakhovsky Island (New Siberian Archipelago, Dmitry Laptev Strait) was studied to reconstruct past landscape and environmental dynamics. The sequence accumulated during the Marine Isotope Stage 3 (MIS3) Interstadial between >49 and 29 ka BP in an ice-wedge polygon. The...
متن کاملSea-level records from the U.S. mid-Atlantic constrain Laurentide Ice Sheet extent during Marine Isotope Stage 3
The U.S. mid-Atlantic sea-level record is sensitive to the history of the Laurentide Ice Sheet as the coastline lies along the ice sheet's peripheral bulge. However, paleo sea-level markers on the present-day shoreline of Virginia and North Carolina dated to Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 3, from 50 to 35 ka, are surprisingly high for this glacial interval, and remain unexplained by previous models...

[1] We present high-resolution records of upper ocean temperatures derived from Mg/Ca ratios of surfacedwelling Globigerina bulloides and subsurface-dwelling Neogloboquadrina pachyderma sinistral and the relative abundance of N. pachyderma sinistral for the period 55–8 ka BP from NE Atlantic sediment core MD01-2461. Millennial-scale temporal variability and longer-term trends in these records e...
